The technological evolution in the industry is constantly driving innovations that translate into better performance and lower costs of individual devices and entire processes. This also applies to frequency converters. The Danfoss FC-51 model, which is currently on the market and enjoys great recognition, is gradually giving way to a new solution – the iC2-Micro. It is a natural response to the growing needs of the industry for optimization in terms of efficiency, cost and space.
The FC-51 model has gained recognition in many industries and areas of industrial functioning over the years. By enabling precise control of electric motors, it allowed for the regulation of the frequency and voltage of the supply, and thus for energy management in applications requiring variable speed. Its features and built-in protective mechanisms – such as the ETR (Electronic Thermal Relay) function, which calculates the motor load – have ensured the safety and efficiency of the devices present in the infrastructure for many companies for years. Now, however, it is time to go a step further and use the rapid technological progress in practice.
The iC2-Micro converter, the successor to the FC-51, introduces a number of improvements that meet the needs of modern enterprises. Compact dimensions and a compact design save space in the cabinet while reducing system costs. This change is noticeable at first glance, but the Danfoss model has much more to offer.
The new converter has many solutions that significantly reduce start-up time, but also everyday operation. Thanks to the use of spring-loaded I/O terminals, installation is hassle-free and the possibility of making assembly errors is much smaller. The built-in control panel with an LED display and clear indicators allows for ongoing monitoring of operating parameters, and the optional remote control panel further expands the functionality of the device in this area.
The available RJ45 port allows for easy connection to a computer or external control module. There is also an option of offline configuration using an adapter, as well as application wizards, which make start-up even easier and faster. The manufacturer has also equipped the iC2-Micro with a built-in potentiometer, thanks to which you can set the setpoint values locally without the need for additional cabling, which translates into reduced installation costs.
One of the greatest advantages of the iC2-Micro is its compatibility with various types of motors, including IPM and SPM, which opens up a wide range of options for selecting the drive that is best suited to the application. The built-in brake chopper and PID controller enable optimized motor operation, reducing operating costs. The drive offers a valuable dead zone control function from the perspective of enterprises, which allows for more efficient motor management in applications requiring precision. This also has its applications in the field of vibration reduction – achieved by avoiding activity in the frequency range that can cause mechanical resonance.
High reliability is the result of several key design and technological features. The iC2-Micro offers advanced features such as open-loop torque control and locked motor shaft detection, which affect its versatility and reliability in various applications. It is equipped with thermal monitoring systems and short circuit and ground fault protection. The lack of forced air circulation over the PCBs reduces the risk of failure caused by fan interference. The converter itself also has a replaceable fan, which simplifies maintenance.
A noticeable advantage of the implementation is the reduction of noise, resulting, among other things, from the on/off control present in the model. This advantage becomes even more pronounced if we choose the MA01c housing, in which natural cooling is used. Coated printed circuit boards affect the overall durability and reliability in difficult conditions. The iC2-Micro can perform its tasks at temperatures up to 50°C without derating, which eliminates the need for external cooling and extends the operating time without interruptions.
At the same time, the converter meets the highest safety standards. UL certification in accordance with the requirements of UL/IEC 60335-2-40 and CSA C22.2 No. 0335-2-40 confirms its reliability in HVAC/R applications, including systems using A2L refrigerants. What is also particularly important in the era of rapidly digitizing industry, the iC2-Micro is supported by a number of computer tools that simplify the commissioning process.
Choosing the iC2-Micro is an investment that quickly pays off. It is an excellent tool for optimizing efficiency and costs in the enterprise. By choosing the described model, you gain reliability, better performance, simpler operation and greater functionality. In other words – you are taking another step forward in the evolution of the automation systems used. This is a good time for a technological change!
