dU/dt filters increase the rise time of the line-to-line voltage at the motor terminals, which is particularly important when using short motor cables.
dU/dt filters limit the amplitude of voltage pulse peaks, thereby also reducing their damaging impact on motor winding insulation.
Compared to sine filters, dU/dt filters attenuate all frequencies above the switching frequency.
Better solution than output chokes
Output chokes can often contribute to undamped oscillations at the motor terminals, which increases the risk of high-amplitude overvoltages at the motor terminals. dU/dt filters are L-C low-pass filters with a defined cut-off frequency. As a result, the risk of voltage spikes and overvoltages at the motor terminals is reduced and depends on the attenuation characteristics of the filter.
